Reckendorf is a village of 2000 (2012) in the Upper Franconian region of northern Bavaria. It has a documented history going back more than 1000 years. It is one of the few villages which retains its synagogue structure, which was recently purchased by the village and renovated to be a community center. Some elements of its Jewish heritage were preserved in the renovation. Jews were invited to settle in the village after the decimation of the population of the Thirty Years war.
