Reconquista is a city located in the northern part of the Santa Fe Province in Argentina. It is about 327 kilometers (203 miles) away from the provincial capital. Reconquista is the main town of the General Obligado Department. In 2010, about 99,288 people lived there.
The city sits on a branch of the Paraná River, right across from the city of Goya, Corrientes. There are plans to build a road connecting the two cities. For now, people use boats to cross the many small rivers and wet areas.
Reconquista was started on April 27, 1872. It began as a military fort built by Colonel Manuel Obligado. This area used to be home to a Jesuit mission called Reducción San Jerónimo del Rey. Reconquista officially became a city in 1921.

Getting Around: Transportation
Reconquista has its own airport, Reconquista Airport. Commercial airlines use it to bring people to and from the city. As of 2023, the airline LADE offers flights there.
A Look Back: History of Reconquista
Long ago, the Abipones people lived in the area where Reconquista is now. We know this from the writings of Jesuit missionary Martin Dobrizhoffer.
On November 22, 1872, the Governor Simón de Iriondo signed a special order. This order allowed for the creation of a new town, which was named Reconquista.
