Record Breakers: World of Speed facts for kids
Record Breakers: World of Speed were super cool battery-powered toy cars made by Hasbro. They were like tiny race cars called Mini 4WDs. These toys first came out in Japan in the late 1980s and early 1990s. Later, they became popular in the United States too.
Hasbro wanted everyone to know about these speedy cars. So, they started something called the "National Association of Record Breakers." This group held exciting races for the toys in shopping malls all over the country. There was even a TV show called Record Breakers that showed these real-life races!

About the Record Breakers Toys
Record Breakers cars were famous for being incredibly fast. On a smooth floor, they could zoom up to 20 miles per hour (about 32 kilometers per hour)! That's like a real car going 500 to 640 miles per hour if it were the same size as the toy!
How Record Breakers Cars Worked
Most Mini 4WD cars use special pins to stay on a track. But Record Breakers were different. They had small guide wheels instead. These wheels helped the cars stay perfectly on their race tracks.
You could also run these cars on their own. However, if they weren't on a track, they would usually crash into something unless you stopped them. They were built for speed and racing!
Power and Customization
Some Record Breakers cars had one electric motor, while others had two. They all ran on two AA batteries. The cars with a single motor could even switch between 2-wheel drive and 4-wheel drive. Some models let you add a third battery for even more power and speed!
You could also make your Record Breakers car unique. Hasbro sold special kits with different wheels and guide wheels. These kits let you change how your car looked and performed. There were also different kinds of race tracks you could buy to create exciting new races.
