Red Lion is a small, unincorporated community located in Clearcreek Township, which is in Warren County, Ohio, United States. An unincorporated community means it's a place where people live together, but it doesn't have its own local government like a city or town.

Red Lion is found where three main roads meet: State Route 741, State Route 122, and State Route 123. It's about five miles south of Springboro and five miles northwest of Lebanon.

How Red Lion Got Its Name

Red Lion was first established in 1817. When it was originally founded, it was known by a different name: Westfield.

The community's name changed because of a very popular place called the Red Lion Tavern. This tavern had a special sign outside that showed a red lion rampant. A "lion rampant" means a lion standing on its back legs, ready to pounce. This tavern became a well-known landmark in the area. Because the tavern was so famous, people started calling the entire community "Red Lion."

A post office was officially opened in Red Lion in 1834. This post office served the community for many years, finally closing its doors in 1903.
