Yarmouth–Dennis Red Sox

Merrill "Red" Wilson Field is a special baseball park in Yarmouth, Massachusetts. It is the home field for the Yarmouth–Dennis Red Sox team. This team plays in the Cape Cod Baseball League (CCBL). The field is right next to Dennis-Yarmouth Regional High School.

Red Wilson Field is unique because it is one of only three fields in the CCBL that does not have lights for night games. The field was built in 1957. The Yarmouth Red Sox started using it regularly as their home field in 1973.

In 1981, the field was renamed to honor Merrill "Red" Wilson. He was a much-loved teacher, coach, and athletic director at Dennis-Yarmouth High School. Red Wilson was also a great baseball player. He was a seven-time all-star catcher for Yarmouth in the late 1950s and early 1960s. Later, he managed the team for 16 seasons. In 2000, he was one of the first people to be added to the CCBL Hall of Fame.

Field Upgrades and Big Games

Red Wilson Field has seen many exciting moments. In 2009, the field got major upgrades thanks to a grant from the Yawkey Foundation. These improvements helped make the park even better for players and fans.

Hosting All-Star Games

The ballpark has hosted the CCBL's yearly all-star game and home run derby three times. These big events happened in 1996, 2006, and 2013. During these events, the best players in the league show off their skills.

Championship Wins and Future Stars

The Yarmouth-Dennis Red Sox have won eight CCBL league titles at this park. Their most recent wins were three years in a row, from 2014 to 2016. Many players who later became famous in Major League Baseball played here. Some of these future stars include Buster Posey, Craig Biggio, and Chris Sale.

Famous Food at the Concession Stand

The food stand at Red Wilson Field is very famous! It has even been featured in national news. Publications like Baseball America and The Boston Globe have written about its creative food.

The Donut Burger Story

Since 2004, thousands of "donut burgers" have been sold at the ballpark. "Burger Bob" Phillips created this unique idea. Instead of a regular hamburger bun, you can get your burger served between two halves of a donut.

Fun Burger Names

The donut burgers come with different donut and topping choices. They also have fun baseball-themed names. Some of these names include "The Hurler" and "The Sinker."
