Yarmouth–Dennis Red Sox |
Merrill "Red" Wilson Field is a special baseball park in Yarmouth, Massachusetts. It is the home field for the Yarmouth–Dennis Red Sox team. This team plays in the Cape Cod Baseball League (CCBL). The field is right next to Dennis-Yarmouth Regional High School.
Red Wilson Field is unique because it is one of only three fields in the CCBL that does not have lights for night games. The field was built in 1957. The Yarmouth Red Sox started using it regularly as their home field in 1973.
In 1981, the field was renamed to honor Merrill "Red" Wilson. He was a much-loved teacher, coach, and athletic director at Dennis-Yarmouth High School. Red Wilson was also a great baseball player. He was a seven-time all-star catcher for Yarmouth in the late 1950s and early 1960s. Later, he managed the team for 16 seasons. In 2000, he was one of the first people to be added to the CCBL Hall of Fame.
