Reddington is a small, quiet place located in Jackson County, Indiana, in the United States. It's known as an unincorporated community, which means it's a settlement that doesn't have its own local government like a city or town does. Instead, it's part of a larger area called Redding Township.
A Look Back: Reddington's History
Reddington was officially started, or "laid out," in the year 1837. This means people planned and marked out where the community would be built. It got its name from the surrounding Redding Township.
A very important part of any community back then was its post office. Reddington got its own post office in 1837, the same year it was founded. This office helped people send and receive letters and packages. However, the post office eventually closed down in 1902. This often happened as transportation improved and people could get their mail from larger nearby towns.
