The Story of Redken
Redken was started in 1960 by two people: Jheri Redding and Paula Kent. The name "Red-ken" comes from their last names.
They wanted to create hair products using a "Scientific Approach to Beauty." This meant they used science to understand how hair works. They were pioneers in using protein to make hair stronger and healthier. They even got special legal rights, called patents, for their new protein-based products.
In 1993, Redken became part of a larger company called Cosmair, Inc.
Redken's Public Face
Redken often chooses famous people to represent their brand. These people are called the "face" of Redken.
In 2014, a model named Lea T became the face of Redken. She was the first openly transgender model to represent a major beauty brand around the world.
Later, in 2015, the model and actress Suki Waterhouse also became a face for Redken.
Redken has also been recognized for its efforts to be environmentally friendly. In 2020, the Environment Possibility Award gave Redken the "Award of Earth Defender." This award recognized the company's work in sustainable development and making products that are good for the planet.
