Early life
Sabrina Annlynn Carpenter was born on May 11, 1999, in Pennsylvania. She grew up in a town called East Greenville with her three older sisters. She is also the niece of actress Nancy Cartwright, who is famous for being the voice of Bart Simpson on The Simpsons.
Sabrina loved music from a young age. She started taking voice lessons when she was six. When she was about 10 years old, she began posting videos on YouTube of herself singing songs by artists like Christina Aguilera and Adele. To support her passion, her father built a recording studio for her at home.
Career
Starting on the Disney Channel
Sabrina's career began with small acting roles. Her first role was in the TV show Law & Order: Special Victims Unit in 2011. In 2013, she was cast in the Disney Channel show Girl Meets World as the rebellious and loyal character Maya Hart. The show was a spin-off of the popular 1990s sitcom Boy Meets World. It ran for three seasons and made Sabrina a star among young audiences.
While acting, Sabrina also started her music career. She signed a record deal with Hollywood Records in 2014. That same year, she released her first EP, Can't Blame a Girl for Trying.
First Albums and Tours
In 2015, Sabrina released her first full album, Eyes Wide Open. It was a teen pop album that won two Radio Disney Music Awards. A year later, she released her second album, Evolution (2016). This album had a more mature sound and included the popular song "Thumbs," which became her first song to be certified Platinum.
To support her new music, Sabrina went on her first headlining tour, the EVOLution Tour. She also starred in the Disney Channel Original Movie Adventures in Babysitting in 2016.
New Music and Movie Roles
Sabrina continued to release new music and act in movies. She released two albums, Singular: Act I (2018) and Singular: Act II (2019). These albums showed her growth as an artist, with a sound that mixed pop with dance music.
During this time, she also focused on her acting career. She starred in the Netflix movie Tall Girl (2019) and later in its sequel. In 2020, she starred in and was an executive producer for the dance movie Work It. That same year, she made her debut on Broadway, playing Cady Heron in the musical Mean Girls.
Growing Popularity
In 2021, Sabrina signed with a new record label, Island Records. She released her fifth album, Emails I Can't Send, in 2022. The album was very personal and received great reviews. One of its songs, "Nonsense", became a huge hit. It went viral on TikTok because Sabrina would sing new, funny endings for it at every show on her tour.
Another single from the album, "Feather", also became very popular. Its creative music video got a lot of attention when it was released. From 2023 to 2024, Sabrina's fame grew even more when she was chosen as the opening act for Taylor Swift's The Eras Tour for shows in Latin America, Australia, and Singapore.
Becoming a Global Superstar
The year 2024 was a major turning point for Sabrina's career. In April, she released the song "Espresso", which became a massive global hit. It was the perfect summer song and reached the top of the charts in many countries. Her next single, "Please Please Please", was also a huge success, becoming her first song to reach number one in the United States.
Her sixth album, Short n' Sweet, was released in August 2024 and debuted at number one on the Billboard 200 chart. The album's success led to six Grammy nominations. She won two awards: Best Pop Vocal Album and Best Pop Solo Performance for "Espresso". In 2025, she released her seventh album, Man's Best Friend, which also debuted at number one.
Music and Songwriting
Sabrina's music is mainly pop with some R&B influences. Early in her career, she was known as a teen pop singer. As she grew older, her music explored different styles like dance-pop.
She has said that singers like Christina Aguilera, Rihanna, and Taylor Swift have inspired her music and songwriting. Sabrina co-writes most of her songs, often using her own life experiences as inspiration. She is known for her clever and funny lyrics.
Other Projects and Charity Work
Outside of music and acting, Sabrina is involved in other projects. She has worked with fashion brands like Converse and Aéropostale. She also has her own line of successful fragrances, including "Sweet Tooth" and "Caramel Dream."
Sabrina uses her fame to support good causes. She has worked with organizations that help children in hospitals and has shown support for the LGBTQ+ community. She also encourages her fans to be active in their communities and to vote.
Personal life
Sabrina is close with her family, especially her three older sisters, Sarah, Shannon, and Cayla. Her relationships have sometimes been in the news, but she prefers to keep her private life out of the spotlight.
