Zara Maria Larsson (born 16 December 1997) is a Swedish singer, songwriter, and dancer. She became famous in 2008 after winning the second season of Talang, which is Sweden's version of the Got Talent TV show. Later, she became known around the world with hit songs like "Lush Life" (2015), "Never Forget You" (2015), and "Ruin My Life" (2018).
In 2012, Larsson signed with TEN Music Group, a record label. She then released her first extended play (EP), Introducing, in January 2013. The EP featured her first original song, "Uncover". This song became number one in Scandinavia and was certified six times platinum in Sweden. Her first full studio album, 1, came out in 2014.
After her early success in Scandinavia, Larsson signed a three-year deal with Epic Records in the United States. Her first international album, So Good, was very popular and was released in March 2017. Larsson's third studio album, Poster Girl, was released in March 2021. Her fourth studio album, Venus, came out on 9 February 2024.

Early Life and Education
Zara Maria Larsson was born on 16 December 1997 in Solna, Stockholm, Sweden. Her parents are Agnetha and Anders Larsson. She has a younger sister named Hanna, who is also a singer in the band Lennix.
Zara started school at Gubbängsskolan. In third grade, she moved to the Royal Swedish Ballet School. She later attended Kulturama, an art school in Stockholm. She has said that singers like Carola Häggkvist and Whitney Houston were early inspirations for her. Since she was five, she dreamed of becoming "immortal" like Elvis Presley.
Music Career Beginnings
2008–2011: Early Fame

In 2008, at just 10 years old, Zara Larsson won the Swedish TV show Talang. She won 500,000 Swedish kronor. The song she sang in the final, "My Heart Will Go On" by Celine Dion, was released as her first single. It reached number seven on the Swedish Singles Chart. She also started singing on another Swedish TV show called Sommarkrysset.
Between 2009 and 2010, Zara was part of a TV show called Jag ska bli stjärna (meaning "I shall become a star"). This show followed young Swedish talents trying to become famous internationally. She traveled to Los Angeles and met with big record labels like Universal Music Group, Sony Music, and Warner Music Group. However, she did not get a contract at that time, which she later thought was because of her young age.
2012–2014: First Album Success

In 2012, Larsson signed with TEN Music Group. Her first EP, Introducing, was released in Scandinavia on 21 January 2013. It had five original songs. The main song, "Uncover", quickly became very popular. It reached number one in Sweden and Norway, and number three in Denmark. By February 2013, "Uncover" was certified platinum in Sweden because it had been streamed over five million times.
In July 2013, Zara received an award for Introducing being 3x platinum in Sweden. This meant it had sold over 120,000 copies. On 3 April 2013, Larsson announced she had signed a three-year contract with Epic Records in the United States. On 11 December 2013, she performed at the Nobel Peace Prize Concert in Oslo. Her first full studio album, 1, was released in Scandinavia on 1 October 2014. It included her hit songs "Uncover" and "Bad Boys". The album also went platinum in Sweden. Larsson also opened shows for English singer Cher Lloyd on her I Wish Tour.
2015–2017: Global Recognition
On 15 January 2015, Larsson released Uncover, her first international EP. This EP featured songs from her album 1. On 5 June 2015, she released the single "Lush Life". This song became her second number one hit in Sweden and was certified 4x platinum. It reached the top five in 18 countries.
On 22 July 2015, Larsson released "Never Forget You" with English singer MNEK. This song reached number one in Sweden and was very popular in Australia and the United Kingdom. In February 2016, she was featured on Tinie Tempah's song "Girls Like". Larsson also sang on "This One's for You" by David Guetta, which was the official song for UEFA Euro 2016.
On 1 September 2016, Larsson released "Ain't My Fault". In October 2016, Time magazine named her one of the "30 Most Influential Teens of 2016". She released "I Would Like" on 11 November 2016, which was a top five hit in the UK and Sweden.
In January 2017, Larsson released "So Good" featuring American singer Ty Dolla Sign. Her second album, also called So Good, was released on 17 March 2017. It was her first international album. The album included a song with Wizkid called "Sundown". The song "Symphony" by Clean Bandit featuring Larsson was also a bonus track. It became her fifth number one song in Sweden and her first number one in the United Kingdom. The album So Good was number one in Sweden and reached the top ten in many other countries.
2017–2022: Poster Girl Album
In September 2017, Larsson began working on her third studio album. She performed again at the Nobel Peace Prize Concert in December 2017, this time with John Legend. In January 2018, Forbes magazine included her on their "30 Under 30 Europe" list for entertainment.
In September 2018, Larsson announced "Ruin My Life" as the first single from her third album. She released the song and its music video on 18 October 2018. The song was very successful worldwide. In 2019, she released "Don't Worry Bout Me" and "All the Time". She also released "Wow" as a promotional song.
In November 2019, Larsson's song "Invisible" was released. It was from the 2019 movie Klaus, which was the first original animated film on Netflix. In March 2020, she was featured on Kygo's song "Like It Is" with Tyga. This song did well in Sweden, New Zealand, and Norway.
In June 2020, Larsson announced the single "Love Me Land". She released the song and music video on 10 July 2020. She also shared that her new album would be called Poster Girl. "Wow" was also included on this album. In September 2020, a remix of "Wow" featuring Sabrina Carpenter was released.
On 8 January 2021, she released "Talk About Love" with Young Thug. This was the third single from Poster Girl. Poster Girl was released on 5 March 2021 and received good reviews. It reached number three on the Swedish Albums Chart and number 12 on the UK Albums Chart.
On 21 May 2021, Larsson released a summer edition of Poster Girl. She also performed songs at a virtual party on Roblox. On 22 April 2022, Larsson released "Words" with Swedish DJ Alesso. This song was popular in Europe.
In June 2022, Larsson announced that she had left TEN Music Group. She started her own record label called Sommer House. This also meant she now owned the rights to her past music. She renewed her contract with Epic Records. All her future music is released under her own label, Sommer House, with Epic Records in the US and Sony Sweden in Sweden.
2023–Present: Venus Album
On 27 January 2023, Larsson released "Can't Tame Her". This was the first single from her fourth studio album, Venus. She then released "End of Time" on 19 May 2023. The third single, "On My Love", was released on 15 September 2023, in collaboration with French DJ David Guetta.
On 26 October 2023, Larsson officially announced Venus and made it available for pre-order. She also announced the Venus Tour, a European tour to support the album, which began in February 2024. On 1 December 2023, Larsson released her holiday EP Honor the Light. On 19 January 2024, "You Love Who You Love" was released as the fourth single from the album. Venus was released on 9 February 2024 and received positive reviews. On 3 April 2024, Larsson released a recorded concert from her Venus Tour in Amsterdam.
On 15 May 2023, Netflix Nordic announced a new film called A Part of You. The film, which stars Larsson, Felicia Maxime, and Edvin Ryding, was released on 31 May 2024. Larsson's fifth studio album, Midnight Sun, is scheduled to be released on 26 September 2025.
Other Work and Activism
In 2015, Zara Larsson gave a summer speech on Sveriges Radio, a Swedish radio station. She was one of 58 famous people chosen that year. Her 48-minute speech was broadcast live on 25 July 2015. At 17, she was the youngest person to give this speech. In her speech, she talked about her life, music, and her views on equality.
On 18 May 2017, Larsson released a clothing collection with H&M. She helped design the clothes and choose the colors. Pink was a common color in the collection.
Views and Advocacy
Larsson has become more open about her views on other artists and people in the music industry. She greatly admires artists like Beyoncé. She also shares her strong opinions about some artists. Huawei Partnership
In March 2019, it was announced that Larsson had started working with the Chinese technology company Huawei. Some experts on human rights criticized this partnership. They pointed to Huawei's close ties with the Chinese government and its human rights record. In August 2020, Larsson announced that she had ended her partnership with Huawei. She stated that China is "not a nice state" and that she does not support its policies. Huawei responded by saying the deal was for a limited time and had already ended in 2019. After her comments, Larsson's music was reportedly removed from Apple Music in China.
