Andi Mack is a fun family comedy-drama TV show. It was made by Terri Minsky and aired on Disney Channel. The show ran from April 7, 2017, to July 26, 2019.
The main actors are Peyton Elizabeth Lee, Joshua Rush, Sofia Wylie, and Asher Angel. The story is about 13-year-old Andi Mack and her best friends, Cyrus Goodman and Buffy Driscoll. They go through middle school together and face many adventures.
Andi Mack was very popular with kids aged 6–14. It was the first Disney Channel show to feature a main character, Cyrus Goodman, who explores his feelings for other boys. This was a big deal and got a lot of attention in the news. The show has won awards for this important storyline.
Story of Andi Mack
Season 1: A Big Secret
On her 13th birthday, Andi Mack's life changes completely. She finds out that Bex, who she thought was her older sister, is actually her mom! This is a huge surprise for Andi.
Andi joins her middle school frisbee team. She wants to get closer to Jonah, a boy she likes. Her best friend Cyrus also has feelings for Jonah. Andi also has to deal with Jonah's high school girlfriend, Amber.
Andi shares her big family secret with her best friends, Cyrus and Buffy. She starts to get to know her mom, Bex, better. She also bonds with her newfound dad, Bowie.
Season 2: New Feelings and Challenges
Andi tries to get her parents, Bex and Bowie, to get married. But their plans don't work out. Jonah breaks up with Amber.
Cyrus shares his personal feelings about who he likes with Buffy. Buffy joins the basketball team. Her math teacher asks her to help the team captain, TJ, with his grades. TJ has a learning difference, and Cyrus helps him understand it better. This allows TJ to keep playing basketball.
Cyrus also shares his feelings with Andi. Andi and Jonah start dating. Buffy seems to move far away, but it turns out she still lives nearby. Bex and Bowie try to make their relationship work.
Season 3: Growing Up and Standing Up
Bex and Bowie get engaged! Andi decides she wants to be just friends with Jonah, and he agrees. Buffy starts dating Walker, which makes Andi feel a bit uncomfortable.
Cyrus goes on a dirt biking trip with TJ and his friends. Cyrus finds something dangerous that makes him worried. He tells Principal Metcalf about it. Later, a police officer asks Cyrus questions after TJ reports the incident.
Buffy tries to make the girls' basketball team better. But they lose badly in their first game. Cyrus shares his feelings about who he likes with Jonah. Jefferson Middle School holds a fun Costume Day.
Bex decides to cancel her wedding to Bowie. Andi, Cyrus, Buffy, and Jonah get into trouble. They are arrested for giving away clothes that a company had thrown out, without permission. Buffy gets a foot injury and can't play basketball for the rest of the season.
Andi's art project, which fights against stereotypes, gets a lot of attention. This helps her get accepted into a special art school. Bex plans a surprise wedding for her and Bowie. Marty's girlfriend breaks up with him because he has feelings for Buffy.
After denying their feelings, Buffy and Marty finally admit they like each other. Buffy kicks Kira off her basketball team. Kira tries to get back at Buffy by hurting Cyrus. But TJ stands up to Kira. After that, TJ and Cyrus show they like each other by holding hands.

How Andi Mack Was Made
The idea for Andi Mack started in 2015. Gary Marsh, who was in charge of Disney Channels, asked writer Terri Minsky to create another show. Terri Minsky had also created the popular show Lizzie McGuire.
Minsky got the idea for Andi Mack from a story about actor Jack Nicholson. He found out as an adult that the woman he thought was his sister was actually his mother. Disney Channel liked the idea and ordered a pilot episode in November 2015. They officially ordered Andi Mack as a series in August 2016.
Filming for the show began in Salt Lake City in September 2016 and finished in December 2016.
The first episode was available online and on demand on March 10, 2017. The show officially premiered on Disney Channel on April 7, 2017. There were 13 episodes planned for the first season, but only 12 aired.
Disney Channel announced a second season on May 25, 2017. Filming for the second season started in July 2017.
On August 20, 2017, five more episodes were added to the second season. Before the second season started, a music video for the show's theme song was released. On October 25, 2017, it was shared that in the second season, Cyrus would start to realize he had feelings for Jonah. This made him the first main character on Disney Channel with a storyline about discovering his identity. The second season premiered on October 27, 2017.
On February 19, 2018, Disney Channel announced a third season for Andi Mack. The cast found out live on Good Morning America. The third season started on October 8, 2018.
In November 2018, it was reported that two episodes would focus on gun safety and peer pressure. On December 14, 2018, an actor named Stoney Westmoreland was removed from the show due to legal issues. Any scenes he was in that hadn't aired yet were taken out.
On April 24, 2019, it was announced that Andi Mack would end after its third season. The final episode aired on July 26, 2019.
What People Thought of Andi Mack
The show was praised for showing what it's really like to be a young teenager. It covered topics like learning differences, panic attacks, and family surprises. It was the first Disney Channel show to feature a main character, Cyrus Goodman, exploring his identity. This was seen as a very important and new step. Andi Mack was also the first Disney Channel show where a character, Cyrus, said "I'm gay" when he talked to Jonah.

Awards and Nominations
Andi Mack was the first Disney Channel show to feature a storyline about a character discovering his identity. Because of this, it won and was nominated for several awards. These include the 2018 GLAAD Media Award for Outstanding Kids & Family Programming. It also won the 2018 Academy of Television Arts & Sciences award for Television with a Conscience.
