Career

Starting in Movies and TV

Michelle Manning started her career at Zoetrope Studios. There, she helped make movies like The Outsiders. She then worked for Channel Productions. She produced the classic film The Breakfast Club. She was also an associate producer for Sixteen Candles.

In 1986, Manning directed her first full movie, Blue City. She also directed parts of Another 48 Hrs.. On television, she directed episodes of popular shows. These included Miami Vice and Friday the 13th: The Series.

Working at Major Studios

In the early 1990s, Manning worked at Orion Pictures. She helped oversee big movies there. Some of these films won Oscars. They included The Silence of the Lambs and Dances with Wolves. She also worked on Little Man Tate and The Addams Family.

In 1991, Manning joined Paramount Pictures. She quickly moved up in the company. By 1997, she became the President of Production. This meant she was in charge of all new movies made by the studio. She oversaw their development and production.

During her time at Paramount, she was involved in many famous films. These include Forrest Gump, which won six Oscars. She also worked on Titanic, The Firm, and Clueless. Other notable films were Braveheart and Saving Private Ryan.

Later Projects and Andi Mack

After leaving Paramount in 2005, Manning started her own company, MM Productions. She continued to produce movies. These included The Eye starring Jessica Alba. She also produced Jenny's Wedding.

Manning also worked on TV movies for the Lifetime channel. She executive produced Prosecuting Casey Anthony. For the Disney Channel, she helped create Teen Beach 2 and Adventures In Babysitting.

From 2017 to 2019, Manning was an executive producer for the Disney Channel series Andi Mack. Her company, MM Productions, produced the show. Manning also directed eight episodes of the series. Andi Mack was special for many reasons. It was the Disney Channel’s first show with a continuous story. It was also the first to focus on an Asian-American family. The show also featured the channel's first openly LGBTQ character.

Andi Mack received many awards. It was nominated for a Peabody Award. It won the first GLAAD Media Award for Outstanding Kids & Family Programming. It also received a Television Academy Honor. This award recognizes shows that teach and inspire audiences.

In 2019, Manning executive produced The Dirt for Netflix. She also worked on Come Away, a movie starring Angelina Jolie.
