Michelle Manning has had a long and successful career in the entertainment world. She has worked on many well-known movies and television series.

Early Work in Film

Michelle Manning started her career at Zoetrope Studios. There, she helped manage the production of Francis Ford Coppola’s movies The Outsiders and Rumble Fish. She then worked for Channel Productions. During this time, she produced The Breakfast Club. She was also an associate producer for Sixteen Candles.

In 1986, Manning directed her first feature film, Blue City. She also directed musical scenes for the movie Another 48 Hrs.. On television, she directed episodes of popular shows like Miami Vice and Friday the 13th: The Series.

Working at Orion Pictures

In the early 1990s, Michelle Manning became the Vice President of Production at Orion Pictures. She helped oversee the making of several important films. These included The Silence of the Lambs and Dances with Wolves, both of which won Academy Awards for Best Picture. She also worked on Little Man Tate and The Addams Family.

Leading at Paramount Pictures

In 1991, Manning joined Paramount Pictures as a Senior Vice President. She was promoted to Executive Vice President in 1994. Then, in 1997, she became the President of Production. In this big role, she was in charge of developing and producing all of the studio's films.

Impactful Work on Andi Mack

From 2017 to 2019, Manning was an Executive Producer for the Disney Channel series Andi Mack. Her company, MM Productions, produced the show. She also directed eight episodes of the series. Andi Mack was a very important show for Disney Channel. It was their first show that told a continuous story. It was also the first series to focus on an Asian-American family. Additionally, it was the first Disney Channel show to feature an LGBTQ character who openly said "I'm gay."

Andi Mack received many awards and honors. It was nominated for a Peabody Award. It won the first-ever GLAAD Media Award for Outstanding Kids & Family Programming. It also received a Television Academy Honor. This award recognizes shows that educate and inspire audiences.
