Early Life and Music Journey
Reekado Banks grew up in a family that loved music. His mom was a caterer and pastor, and his dad was also a pastor from Ondo State. Because both his parents were pastors, he grew up in a very disciplined home. He finished high school when he was 14 years old. He started recording music in 2008.
His older brother, Temi Solomon, produced all his early songs. Temi also taught Reekado how to write, sing, and produce music. Reekado Banks got his stage name by combining two meanings. "Reekado" means "strong ruler," and "Banks" means "wealth." In 2014, he graduated from the University of Lagos. He studied history and strategic studies there. He looks up to famous musicians like Don Jazzy, 2face Idibia, DJ Jimmy Jatt, Olamide, and M.I. They are his main inspirations in music.
Joining Mavin Records
Reekado Banks's older brother sent some of his songs to Mavin Records. This was part of an online talent search. The record label chose his songs from over 5,000 entries. Then, they signed him to a music deal. In an interview, Reekado said his brother sent his songs without him knowing at first. He also shared that he is a flexible artist. He tries to make music that different people with different tastes will enjoy.
Music Releases and New Beginnings
On February 21, 2014, Reekado Banks released his first song with Mavin Records, called "Turn It Up." This was the same day he signed with the label. The song featured vocals from Tiwa Savage. He also worked with other Mavin Records artists on popular songs like "Dorobucci", "Adaobi", "Arise", and "Looku Looku."
In February 2015, he released "Katapot." Some people thought it was a diss track, but Don Jazzy said it was not. Reekado Banks later said he made "Katapot" for his fans. In July 2015, he signed a deal with the Nigerian phone company Globacom.
On December 7, 2018, Reekado Banks announced he was leaving Mavin Records. He also started his own music company called Banks Music. In 2021, he released the song "Ozumba Mbadiwe." Later, Virgin Music Nigeria announced they would help distribute music for Reekado Banks and another artist named Darkoo.
