Reginald Kristen McClain (born November 16, 1992) is an American former professional baseball pitcher. He played in Major League Baseball (MLB) for two teams: the Seattle Mariners and the Philadelphia Phillies.

Reggie McClain's Early Baseball Days

Reggie McClain went to Northview High School in Johns Creek, Georgia. After high school, he started college at the University of Georgia. However, he was redshirted during his first year. This means he practiced with the team but did not play in any games.

He then moved to the State College of Florida, Manatee–Sarasota. There, he played college baseball for two seasons. Later, he transferred to the University of Missouri. He played for the Tigers for two more seasons.

Playing Professional Baseball

Reggie McClain became a professional baseball player after college. He played for several teams in the minor leagues before reaching Major League Baseball.

Starting in the Minor Leagues

The Seattle Mariners chose Reggie McClain in the 13th round of the 2016 MLB draft. This meant he was the 387th player picked overall that year.

In 2016, McClain played for the Everett AquaSox. He had a record of 3 wins and 3 losses. His earned run average (ERA) was 4.47 over 48 innings pitched. The ERA shows how many runs a pitcher allows per nine innings.

He spent the 2017 season with the Modesto Nuts. He won 12 games and lost 9, with an ERA of 4.75 over 153 innings. He played for Modesto again in 2018. That year, he had 6 wins and 11 losses, with a 5.01 ERA in 133 innings. In 2019, McClain played for Modesto, the Arkansas Travelers, and the Tacoma Rainiers.

Playing for the Seattle Mariners

On August 2, 2019, the Mariners called Reggie McClain up to the major leagues. He made his first MLB appearance that night against the Houston Astros. He pitched for one inning and got two strikeouts. He allowed three runs in that game.

For the Mariners, he finished with a record of 1 win and 1 loss. His ERA was 6.00 over 21 innings. On January 24, 2020, the Mariners decided to designate him for assignment. This means they removed him from their main roster.

Time with the Philadelphia Phillies

On January 31, 2020, the Philadelphia Phillies picked up Reggie McClain. They claimed him off waivers, which means they took his contract after the Mariners released him.

The Phillies designated him for assignment again on August 31. Before this, McClain had played in five games for the Phillies in 2020. His ERA was 5.06 over 5⅓ innings. He was then sent to the minor leagues on September 3.

Joining the New York Yankees

On December 10, 2020, the New York Yankees selected McClain. They picked him from the Phillies in the minor league part of the Rule 5 draft. This draft allows teams to pick players from other teams' minor league rosters.

The Yankees invited McClain to their spring training in 2021. He was a non-roster player, meaning he wasn't on the main team yet. The Yankees then assigned him to the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders. On July 21, McClain helped throw a no-hitter with Luis Gil and Stephen Ridings. A no-hitter is when a team does not allow any hits during an entire game.

In 2022, McClain played in 17 games for the Triple-A Scranton team. He had 0 wins and 1 loss, with a 7.56 ERA. He also had 16 strikeouts over 16⅔ innings. After the season, on November 10, 2022, he became a free agent. This means he was free to sign with any team.
