Reginald Crawford (died 1307) facts for kids
Sir Reginald Crawford was a brave Scottish knight who lived a long time ago, during a period called the Wars of Scottish Independence. These were very important times when Scotland fought hard to be free from England.
Who Was Sir Reginald Crawford?
Sir Reginald Crawford was an important figure in Scotland during the late 1200s and early 1300s. He was known for his role in the long struggle for Scotland's freedom.
His Early Role
In 1296, the English government, which was trying to control Scotland, appointed Sir Reginald as the Sheriff of Ayr. A sheriff was like a local leader or governor who helped keep order and enforce laws.
However, things changed quickly. In June 1297, Sir Reginald was part of a group of Scottish nobles (important leaders) who made a deal with the English. They were released from English control to help fight against another Scottish leader named Andrew Moray. This suggests that Sir Reginald might have been involved in an earlier Scottish uprising in 1297 that ended with an agreement at Irvine.
Supporting Robert the Bruce
Later, Sir Reginald Crawford became a strong supporter of Robert the Bruce. Robert the Bruce was a famous Scottish king who led Scotland to independence.
Sir Reginald fought alongside Robert the Bruce in the fight for Scottish freedom.
His Final Days
Sadly, Sir Reginald Crawford was captured during a battle called the Battle of Loch Ryan in February 1307. After his capture, he was taken to Carlisle, England. There, he was executed.
