In 1923, Fletcher was elected as a Member of Parliament (MP). He represented the area of Basingstoke for the Liberal Party. However, he lost this seat in the next election in 1924.

He later joined the Labour Party. In 1935, he was elected as an MP again. This time, he represented the Nuneaton area.

Taking on Important Roles

In 1942, Reginald Fletcher was given a special title. He became Baron Winster, which is a type of peerage. This meant he became a member of the House of Lords.

In 1945, he became a Privy Counsellor. This is a group of important advisors to the King or Queen.

From 1945 to 1946, Lord Winster served as the Minister of Civil Aviation. He worked under Prime Minister Clement Attlee. In this role, he helped manage air travel in Britain.

After that, in 1946, he was appointed Governor of Cyprus. Cyprus was a British colony at the time. He held this important position until 1949.

Later Years

Lord Winster passed away in 1961 when he was 76 years old. He died in Uckfield, a town in Sussex, England. Since he did not have children to inherit his title, the title of Baron Winster ended with his death.
