The Reid Memorial Presbyterian Church is a very special and historic building in Richmond, Indiana. You can find it at 11th and North "A" Streets. It was designed by talented architects Sidney Badgley and William H. Nicklas. Building the church started in 1904, and it was officially opened on May 13, 1906.

A kind person named Daniel G. Reid paid for the church. He wanted to build it to remember his parents, Daniel Reid and Anna Gray Reid.

About the Reid Memorial Church

The church is known for its amazing design. The architects, Sidney Badgley and William H. Nicklas, also designed another church. It was St. Paul's Methodist Episcopal Church in South Bend, Indiana. Both churches have very similar looks inside.

Special Art and Music

The inside of Reid Church is truly beautiful. Famous artist Louis Comfort Tiffany and his company, Tiffany Studios, designed the church's decorations. They also created the stunning windows.

The church has a large organ that is still used today. It was first built by Hook and Hastings. Later, in 1958, the Wicks Organ Company rebuilt it. This organ is so special that it was featured in a big concert in 2007.

A New Chapter for the Church

Over time, fewer people attended the church. Because of this, the church officially closed on November 5, 2017. The building was then put on a list of "Ten Most Endangered" places by Indiana Landmarks. This meant it was at risk of falling apart.

But good news came in 2019! A group of volunteers started working to save the church. They teamed up with the Whitewater Valley Presbytery, which owns the building. They began a long project to fix and protect it.

The main part of the church is now a great place for performances. The group working on the church has planned many concerts. You can hear all kinds of music there, from classical to jazz and bluegrass. Because of these efforts, the church is no longer on the "Ten Most Endangered List."

In 2022, a new group called The Reid Memorial Presbyterian Church and Community Center, Inc. took over the property. They are also known as The Reid Center. They continue to work on preserving this historic building.
