His father, Tyran Smith, also played rugby league for New Zealand. His uncle is Anthony Mundine, a famous boxer and former rugby league player.
Reimis started playing junior rugby league for the Mascot Jets. He also played for the South Sydney Harold Matthews team. He went to Matraville Sports High School. In 2013, he signed with the Parramatta Eels team.

Early Days in Rugby League
In 2015, Reimis Smith played for the Parramatta Eels' youth team. This team is called the NYC team. Later that year, he joined the Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs.
Playing for Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs (2016–2020)
On May 7, 2016, Reimis played for the Junior Kiwis team. They played against the Junior Kangaroos.
He made his first game in the NRL in Round 12 of the 2016 NRL season. He played for Canterbury against the Canberra Raiders. In this game, he scored two tries. He had played for Canterbury's reserve team the day before. But because another player was called up for a different game, Reimis was quickly asked to play in the NRL. He had to drive from Sydney to Canberra to make it to the game.
In 2017, Reimis mostly played for Canterbury's NSW Cup team. He did not play any first-grade games that year. On May 6, he played for the Junior Kiwis again. They lost to the Junior Kangaroos.
In 2018, Reimis got back into Canterbury's main team. He played on the wing. This happened after another player left the team. He played his first game of the season in Round 15. In Round 24, he scored three tries against the St George Illawarra Dragons. Canterbury won that game 38–0. He played 11 games that season and scored 7 tries.
In 2019, Reimis scored two tries in a game against Manly-Warringah. He also scored two tries against the Sydney Roosters. In a game against Parramatta, he was sent off the field for a short time. This was for headbutting an opposing player.
In November, Reimis signed a new contract with Canterbury. He stayed with the team until the end of the 2021 season.
In the 2020 NRL season, Reimis played 14 games for Canterbury. He scored four tries. The team finished near the bottom of the ladder. In November, Reimis left Canterbury to join the Melbourne Storm.
Playing for Melbourne Storm (2021–2024)
Reimis Smith played 25 games for Melbourne in the 2021 NRL season. The team had a great year, winning 19 games in a row. They finished at the top of the ladder. Reimis played in two finals games. However, Melbourne lost in the preliminary final to the Penrith Panthers.
In 2022, Reimis got an injury during a game. He tore a muscle in his chest. This meant he had to miss about 10 to 12 weeks of playing.
Reimis played 22 games for Melbourne in the 2023 NRL season. He scored five tries that season. He played well with a new winger named Will Warbrick. Reimis also played a few games for the Brisbane Tigers in the Queensland Cup.
On July 31, 2024, it was announced that Reimis was leaving the Melbourne Storm. He was given permission to join another team right away.
Playing for Catalans Dragons (2024–Present)
On August 1, 2024, news came out that Reimis Smith had joined the Super League club Catalans Dragons. He joined them for the rest of the season.
