José Reinaldo de Lima (born on January 11, 1957) is a famous former Brazilian football player. He was a striker, which means he was a player who mainly scores goals. People often called him Reinaldo or Rei, which means "The King" in Portuguese.
Many people think Reinaldo was one of the best strikers in Brazilian football history. He played most of his career for Atlético Mineiro, a big club in Brazil. Fans consider him one of the most important players for that club. He even holds a record for scoring the most goals per game in the Brazilian league! In 1977, he scored an amazing 1.55 goals per match. At that time, Atlético Mineiro was thought to be one of the best teams in the world.
A legendary Brazilian midfielder named Zico once said that Reinaldo was the best player he had ever seen. Zico believed Reinaldo would have been the greatest Brazilian player after Pelé if he hadn't had so many injuries.

Reinaldo's Football Journey
Reinaldo played for several clubs during his career. He spent most of his time, from 1973 to 1985, with Clube Atlético Mineiro. He scored a club record of 255 goals for them! After leaving Atlético Mineiro, he played for other teams like Palmeiras, Rio Negro, Cruzeiro, Häcken in Sweden, and Telstar Velsen in the Netherlands.
Playing for Brazil
Reinaldo also played for the Brazilian national team. He played 30 matches and scored 14 goals for his country between 1975 and 1985. He was part of the team that played in the 1978 FIFA World Cup. In that tournament, he scored one goal against Sweden. He also scored the goal that helped Brazil qualify for the 1982 FIFA World Cup in Spain. However, he wasn't able to play in that World Cup, likely because of an injury.
Amazing Records and Awards
Reinaldo set some incredible records during his career. His record of 1.55 goals per match in the 1977 season is still the highest average for the Brazilian League. He scored 28 goals in just 18 matches that year! This amazing performance is why Atlético Mineiro fans nicknamed him The King.
He also helped Atlético Mineiro win the Campeonato Mineiro title eight times. Six of these wins were in a row, from 1978 to 1983! He also won it in 1976 and 1985.
Life After Football
Even after he stopped playing, Reinaldo remained a very important figure for Atlético Mineiro supporters. In 2004, he became involved in politics in his hometown of Belo Horizonte. He was elected to represent the Workers' Party.
