Reinaldo Paniagua Diez (born July 20, 1934 – died January 29, 2021) was an important person in Puerto Rico's government and also a big fan of baseball. He was born in Santurce, Puerto Rico, and later became a lawyer. He is remembered for his work as a public servant and for owning a famous baseball team.

A Helping Hand in Government
From 1977 to 1979, Reinaldo Paniagua Diez served as the seventh Puerto Rico Secretary of State. This job is like being a chief assistant to the Governor. The Secretary of State helps manage many important government tasks. When the Governor, Carlos Romero Barceló, was away traveling, Mr. Paniagua Diez would step in as the acting Governor. This meant he was in charge of the island for a short time.
Working on Campaigns
Before he became Secretary of State, Reinaldo Paniagua Diez was very active in politics. He helped Governor Carlos Romero Barceló get elected. In 1976, he was the campaign manager for Romero-Barceló. This means he helped plan and organize everything for the election campaign.
A Love for Baseball
After his time as Secretary of State, Reinaldo Paniagua Diez turned his attention to another passion: baseball. He became a very important person in Puerto Rican baseball.
Leading the Cangrejeros
In 1979, after leaving his government job, Mr. Paniagua Diez bought the Cangrejeros de Santurce baseball team. This team plays in Puerto Rico's winter baseball league, called the Liga de Béisbol Profesional Roberto Clemente. He owned the team for a long time, from 1979 until 2002. Under his ownership, the Cangrejeros de Santurce became a very successful and popular team.
