Remington Ranch, Texas facts for kids

Kids Encyclopedia Facts

Remington Ranch is a large, planned neighborhood in Harris County, Texas. It has about 2,100 family homes. The community is located between two major roads, Interstate 45 and the Hardy Toll Road. It's also close to Greenspoint Mall and the George Bush Intercontinental Airport.

How Remington Ranch Was Built

In 2003, a company from Houston called Dickson Partners bought a big piece of land. It was about 510 acres (that's like 386 football fields!). This land had been owned by three families since the 1950s. Dickson Partners wanted to build a brand new community there.

The plan was to build homes that would be affordable. They expected prices to be less than $200,000. Some homes were planned to be as low as $80,000. Another builder, KB Home, bought 143 acres from Dickson. They planned to build 900 homes. Other builders, Newmark Homes and Parkside Homes, planned to build 1,200 more houses.

Some land was also set aside for shops and other buildings. The location was chosen because it was easy to get to the airport, the mall, and major highways. In 2003, the company even talked with the local school district about selling land for a future school. Being in the Spring Independent School District was also a good reason to build there.

Building of the houses was set to start in June 2004. People could begin buying homes in April 2004. The whole Remington Ranch project was expected to be finished by 2008. By 2006, homes were priced from $80,000 to $150,000. K. Hovanian Homes also started building houses in Remington Ranch by 2008.

Remington Ranch was designed to have fun places for everyone. It was planned to include a recreation center. This center would have a large swimming pool, big enough for Olympic events. There would also be a playground area for kids to enjoy.

The plans also included several neighborhood parks. Today, the community has a splash park. This is a great place to cool off on hot days. There is also a barbecue area. Families can use this space for outdoor cooking and gatherings.
