The Story of René Dif
From Cruise Ships to DJ Booths
René Dif was born in Copenhagen, Denmark. His father was from Algeria, and his mother was Danish. School wasn't his favorite thing, and after the ninth grade, he decided to work on a cruise ship. This job took him to many new places.
While traveling, he heard a DJ on the radio in Barbados and was inspired. He decided that he wanted to become a DJ and a music star. To follow this dream, he moved to Norway. There, he met DJ Alligator and they even made an album together called Groove Your Soul.
Forming the Band Aqua
In 1994, while working on a cruise ship, Dif met a singer named Lene Nystrøm. At the time, he was starting a band with his friends Claus Norreen and Søren Rasted. They needed a female singer, and he asked Lene to join. This band would soon become the world-famous group Aqua.
Success with Aqua
As a member of Aqua, René Dif became a global star. The band was known for its fun, catchy Eurodance music. They sold over 28 million records all around the world.
Aqua had many hit songs that you might have heard, including:
- "Roses Are Red"
- "My Oh My"
- "Barbie Girl"
- "Doctor Jones"

The band was so successful that they earned a spot in the Guinness Book of Records. They were the first new band to have three of their own songs reach number one in the United Kingdom.
Life After Aqua's First Break
