About René Dif
Early Life and Dreams
René Dif was born in Copenhagen, Denmark. His father was from Algeria, and his mother was Danish. He has two younger brothers and a sister. René was not very interested in school and left after ninth grade. He then started working on a cruise ship.
While on a trip to Barbados, René heard a local DJ on the radio. This inspired him to become a DJ himself. He moved to Norway to follow his dream of becoming a music star.
How Aqua Started
In 1994, René met Lene Nystrøm on a cruise ship. Later, when René, Claus Norreen, and Søren Rasted were forming a band, they needed a singer. They asked Lene to join them. This group eventually became the internationally successful band, Aqua.
Before Aqua, René worked with another DJ named DJ Alligator. They made an album called Groove your soul and released a song called "I believe." These early projects showed René's talent as a DJ and singer.
Aqua's Big Success
As a member of Aqua, René Dif had many hit songs. The band sold more than 28 million records around the world! They even made it into the Guinness Book of Records for being the only new band to have three number one hits in the UK that they wrote themselves.
Aqua received over 140 Gold and Platinum albums. They even got a Diamond album in Canada for selling 1 million albums. Some of Aqua's most famous songs include "Roses Are Red," "My Oh My," "Barbie Girl," "Lollipop (Candyman)," "Doctor Jones," and "Turn Back Time."
René's Solo Music and Acting
After Aqua took a break in 2001, René Dif released his own songs. These included "Let It All Out (Push It)" and "The Uhh Uhh Song."
In 2004, René also started acting in movies. He appeared in several films directed by Lasse Spang Olsen.
Aqua Reunion
Aqua got back together in 2008 to perform live concerts. They continue to perform and release music.
