Lene Grawford Nystrøm, born on October 2, 1973, is a talented musician, singer, and actress from Norway. She is best known as the main female singer of the popular Danish-Norwegian Eurodance group, Aqua.
Life and Music Career
Early Life and Start (1973–1994)
Lene was born in Tønsberg, Norway. As a teenager, she loved to perform. She started modeling and even worked as a bartender. From 1990 to 1993, she appeared on a Norwegian TV game show called Casino.
Joining Aqua (1994–2001)
In 1994, Lene was singing on a Norwegian cruise ship called MS Peter Wessel. There, she met musician René Dif. He asked her to join his music group, which was first called Joyspeed. Later, the group changed its name to Aqua. The band included Lene, René Dif, Søren Rasted, and Claus Norreen. Aqua became very famous, but in 2001, the band decided to take a break.
Solo Music (2002–2006)
After Aqua split up, Lene started her own solo music career. In 2003, she released her first album, Play with Me. This album showed a different style of music for Lene. It was more like R&B music, instead of the fun, bubbly pop music of Aqua. The album reached number 30 in Denmark and number 74 in Norway.
Her first solo song, "It's Your Duty", came out on September 8, 2003. It was a hit, reaching number 3 in Denmark and number 9 in Norway. In 2004, she released another song called "Pretty Young Thing". Lene also helped write songs for other famous groups, like Girls Aloud.
Aqua Gets Back Together (2007–Present)
On October 26, 2007, Lene and the other members of Aqua decided to reunite. They planned a summer concert tour in Denmark for 2008. The tour was a big success!
After that, Lene continued to work with Aqua. They released a new song, "Back to the 80s", on May 25, 2009. They also released a greatest hits album with their old songs and three new ones. Aqua then toured in Scandinavia, Germany, the UK, and France.
In 2011, Aqua released another song, "How R U Doin?". Their album Megalomania came out on October 3, 2011. Lene also became a judge on the TV show Voice – Danmarks største stemme (the Danish version of The Voice) and The Voice of Norway. She also acted in the movie Varg Veum – Cold Hearts in 2012.
Personal Life
Lene Nystrøm was in a relationship with her Aqua bandmate René Dif for three years.
On August 25, 2001, Lene married another Aqua band member, Søren Rasted, in Las Vegas. In 2004, they moved to Denmark. They have a daughter named India and a son named Billy. Lene and Søren divorced on April 27, 2017, after 16 years of marriage.
