Early Life and Beginnings
Lene Nystrøm was born in Tønsberg, Norway. When she was a teenager, she became very interested in performing. She started her career by modeling and also worked as a bartender. From 1990 to 1993, she appeared on a Norwegian game show called Casino.
Joining Aqua
In 1994, Lene was singing on a cruise ship when she met musician René Dif. He asked her to join his music group, which was first called Joyspeed. Later, the group changed its name to Aqua. The band included Lene Nystrøm, René Dif, Søren Rasted, and Claus Norreen. Aqua became very famous for their fun, upbeat pop songs. The band decided to take a break in 2001.
Solo Music and Other Projects
After Aqua split up, Lene started her own solo music career. In 2003, she released her first album, Play with Me. This album showed a different side of her music, moving from Aqua's "bubblegum pop" sound to a style more influenced by R&B music. Her first solo single, "It's Your Duty", was released in September 2003.
Lene also worked with other artists. She co-wrote songs for the British pop group Girls Aloud, including their hit song "No Good Advice". In 2005, she sang on a charity song called "Hvor små vi er" to help people affected by the 2004 Indian Ocean earthquake.
Aqua Reunion and New Music
In October 2007, Lene reunited with the other members of Aqua. They decided to go on a summer concert tour in 2008, which was very successful. After this, Aqua continued to make new music. They released a new song called "Back to the 80s" in May 2009. They also released a greatest hits album with some new songs.
Aqua released another single, "How R U Doin?", in March 2011, followed by their album Megalomania in October. Lene has also been a judge on TV singing competitions like Voice – Danmarks største stemme (Denmark's version of The Voice) and The Voice of Norway.
Personal Life
Lene Nystrøm was in a relationship with her Aqua bandmate René Dif for three years.
On August 25, 2001, Lene married another Aqua band member, Søren Rasted, in Las Vegas. They moved to Denmark from London in 2004. Together, they have a daughter named India and a son named Billy. Lene and Søren divorced on April 27, 2017, after 16 years of marriage.
