René Orlando Houseman (born July 19, 1953 – died March 22, 2018) was a famous Argentine football player. People often called him Loco, which means "Crazy" in Spanish. He played as a right winger. This means he played on the right side of the field, helping to attack and score goals.
Many sports experts believe Houseman was one of the best wingers Argentina has ever had. He was known for his amazing dribbling skills, speed, and clever moves on the field.

René Houseman's Club Career
René Houseman was born in La Banda, a city in Argentina. He started playing football in the youth teams of Club Atlético Excursionistas. However, he began his professional career with Defensores de Belgrano. With this team, he won his first title, the Primera C championship, in 1971.
In 1973, a famous coach named César Menotti suggested that Houseman join Club Atlético Huracán. Houseman became a very important player for Huracán. He helped them win the 1973 Metropolitano championship. This Huracán team, led by Menotti, is still remembered as one of the best Argentine teams ever. Houseman played alongside other great players like Miguel Brindisi and Carlos Babington.
After playing for Huracán until 1980, Houseman moved to River Plate for a short time in 1981. Then, he went to Chile to play for Colo Colo. Later, he played in South Africa for AmaZulu F.C..
In 1984, he came back to Argentina to play for Independiente. Even though he only played three matches, Houseman was part of the team that won two big international trophies that year: the Libertadores Cup and the Intercontinental Cup.
René Houseman stopped playing professional football in 1985. His last game was for his first club, Excursionistas, against Boca Juniors.
Playing for Argentina: International Career
René Houseman also played for the Argentina national team. He played in the 1974 FIFA World Cup and scored three goals in that tournament.
His biggest success in football was being a part of the team that won the 1978 FIFA World Cup. This was a huge achievement for Argentina. Houseman even scored a goal in their important 6–0 win against Peru during that World Cup.
Life After Football
After he stopped playing, Houseman worked as a coach for Huracán between 2008 and 2009. He was part of the coaching team led by Angel Cappa.
In 2017, it was announced that Houseman was battling tongue cancer. The Argentine Football Association offered to help him with his medical costs. Sadly, René Houseman passed away on March 22, 2018, after his fight with cancer.
