La Banda is a city in Argentina. It is located in the province of Santiago del Estero. With about 95,000 people (from the 2001 census), it is the second-largest city in the province. It is also the main town of the Banda Department.
La Banda is very close to Santiago del Estero, the capital city of the province. Only 8 kilometers separate them. The Dulce River flows between them, and two bridges connect the cities. Together, they form a large urban area with about 280,000 residents. Nearby, the Dulce River is turned into an artificial lake by the Los Quiroga Dam.
You can reach La Banda by National Route 9 through Santiago del Estero. There is also a weekly train service connecting La Banda to Tucumán and Buenos Aires. This train service is part of the Ferrocarril General Bartolomé Mitre railway.
