Renall Street railway station is a train station in Masterton, a town in New Zealand's North Island. It's located on Renall Street and has one platform. Renall Street is one of three train stations in Masterton. The other two are Masterton and Solway.

The station was closed for a short time in 2007. This was part of a big project to get stations ready for new passenger trains. It was closed from May 14, 2007, until early July 2007.

The Story of Renall Street Station

How the Station Began

The railway line, called the Wairarapa Line, was being built in 1880. By late August 1880, the tracks reached a place known as "Upper Plains crossing." On August 28, 1880, a special train brought important people and their families from Wellington to this spot. Some had a picnic, while others went into town.

When Trains Started Stopping

In 1936, Renall Street became a regular stop for special railcars. These were the new Wairarapa railcars. People really wanted a proper station here. So, in 1937, a shelter and a platform were finally built at the Upper Plains crossing.

Old Industrial Connections

The station also used to have special side tracks. These tracks were used by oil companies and other businesses. They helped move goods by train. However, these side tracks have since been removed.

Getting Around: Connecting Services
