Ulysha Reneé Hall (born February 10, 1971) is an American police officer. She is well-known for her leadership in law enforcement. From 2017 to 2020, she served as the chief of police for the Dallas Police Department.

Reneé Hall made history in Dallas. She was the first woman to become the police chief there. She was also the first African-American woman to hold this important position.

Early Life and Career

Reneé Hall grew up in Detroit, Michigan. Her father was also a police officer in the Detroit Police Department. Sadly, he passed away when she was very young.

She attended Grambling State University and the University of Detroit Mercy. After her studies, she followed in her father's footsteps. She joined the Detroit Police Department herself.

Hall quickly showed strong leadership skills. In 2014, she was promoted to deputy chief of the Detroit police. The Detroit City Council praised her work in 2017. They noted her loyalty, honesty, and professionalism. They also said she was a respected leader who got results.

In 2017, Reneé Hall moved to Dallas, Texas. She took on the big role of chief of the Dallas Police Department. She served in this role until the end of 2020.

Leadership Training and Appointments

Reneé Hall has taken part in many special programs. These programs help police leaders grow their skills.

  • Major Cities Chiefs-Police Executive Leadership Institute (PELI IV)

* She attended this program from September 2016 to March 2017. It helps top police leaders.

  • FBI National Academy

* She graduated from Session #262 of the FBI National Academy. This is a special training program for law enforcement officers. She attended from October to December 2015.

  • Michigan Elevator Safety Board

* In 2014 and 2016, she was appointed to this state board. This appointment was made by Governor Rick Snyder.

After her time as police chief, Hall continued her leadership journey. In 2022, she was named a fellow at Harvard University. This was part of their Advanced Leadership Initiative. It's a program for experienced leaders.

In 2023, Hall was elected to a national leadership role. She became the National Second Vice President of the National Organization of Black Law Enforcement Executives (NOBLE). This organization works to ensure fairness in law enforcement.
