A Look Back: Rennert's History
The area where Rennert is today was first called Alpin's Grove. It was named after James McAlpin. He was a Scottish man who settled there after fighting in the British army. This was during the American Revolutionary War, a big fight for America's independence. James McAlpin later became a schoolteacher in the community.
Later, a train track was built through the area. This was the Atlantic Coast Line Railroad. After the railroad came, the community's name changed to Rennert. This new name came from a hotel in New York City. Rennert officially became a town in 1895. But in 1947, it stopped being an official town. Luckily, it became an official town again in 1977.
