Renwick is a small town located in the Marlborough area of New Zealand. It sits close to the south bank of the Wairau River. You can find it about 12 kilometers (7.5 miles) west of Blenheim. Another town, Havelock, is about 31 kilometers (19 miles) north. State Highway 63 goes southwest from Renwick, following the Wairau River valley.

How Renwick Got Its Name

This town was first known as "Upper Wairau." Later, its name changed to "Renwicktown." This new name honored an early landowner in the area, Dr. Thomas Renwick. Over time, the name was shortened to just "Renwick."

Renwick: New Zealand's Wine Country

Renwick is right in the middle of Marlborough's famous grape-growing region. This area is well-known for its vineyards. The most popular grape grown here is Sauvignon blanc. Many famous wineries, like Isabel Estate and Forrest Estate, are very close to Renwick. Another type of grape, Pinot Gris, is also grown and sent to other countries.
