Reservoir, California facts for kids
Reservoir was once a small place where people lived in Kern County, California. It's not there anymore, which is why it's called a "former settlement."
This spot was located about 1 mile (or 1.6 kilometers) south-southeast of another place called Fram. It was also right along the tracks of the Southern Pacific Railroad, which was a very important railway company that helped connect different parts of the United States.
What is a Former Settlement?
A former settlement is like a ghost town or a place that used to have people living there but doesn't anymore. This can happen for many reasons, such as:
- People moving away for better jobs.
- Natural disasters like floods or fires.
- Important resources, like water or minerals, running out.
- New roads or railways bypassing the area, making it less important.
In the case of Reservoir, it was likely a small stop or community that grew up around the railroad, but over time, people moved on, and the settlement disappeared.
