The Rev. Wm James Reid House is a special old home in Fort Meade, Florida. It was built around 1900, but some parts might be even older, from the late 1880s. This house is a great example of a frame vernacular style, which means it was built using local materials and traditional methods. It also has some fancy touches from the Colonial Revival style.

The house was first owned by Reverend William James Reid and his wife, Stella C. Reid. Reverend Reid was a minister. Later, their son Claude lived there until he passed away. After that, his sister Carrie owned the house. For many years, the house was empty. Then, the Harpe family bought it in the 1980s and started to fix it up.

This historic house was even used in a movie! It appeared in the HBO film Judgment. For the movie, HBO added a doorway upstairs. The house has been bought and sold a few times since then. The current owners, the Wolpins, are working to restore it. They also plan to get it listed on the National Register of Historic Places. This list helps protect important historical places.

What Makes the Reid House Special?

The Rev. Wm James Reid House is a three-story building. It still looks much like it did when it was first built in the early 1900s. The house has many original features that make it unique.

Inside the Historic Home

Inside, you'll find four beautiful parlors. These are like living rooms where people would relax or entertain guests. They have very high ceilings, which makes the rooms feel big and open. The original plaster on the walls is still there.

The house also has its original doors and special windows called transoms. These are small windows above a door or another window. The glass in some windows is "wave lead glass," which means it has a wavy look. The house was built with strong cedar wood and has lovely heartpine floors. Even small details like the sliding pocket doors and copper handles are still in great shape.

Where is the Reid House Located?

The Wm. James Reid House is part of a larger area called the Fort Meade Historic District. This district is a special historical area in Fort Meade, Florida. It was officially recognized on July 29, 1994.
