The revealed frog is also known as the orange-thighed tree frog or whirring tree frog. Its scientific name is Litoria revelata. This small frog lives in Australia. It is a type of frog that is related to the brown tree frog.

You can find the revealed frog in three different areas. These areas are in Queensland and New South Wales. Scientists believe that the frogs living in these separate places might actually be different kinds of species.

What the Revealed Frog Looks Like

Male revealed frogs are usually about 2.6 to 2.8 centimeters long. Female frogs are a bit bigger. They measure about 3.0 to 3.6 centimeters long.

This frog has some special features. It has very large sticky pads, called discs, on the ends of its toes. These discs help it climb. Sometimes, it also has black spots on its body. The frog's skin is usually cream-brown or red-brown. It might even have bright orange patches on its legs.

You can also tell this frog apart by its voice. It makes a "whirring" sound. This sound is very low, around 4 Hz. The revealed frog also has long legs and a dark stripe. This stripe runs from its nose all the way to its armpits.

Where the Revealed Frog Lives

The revealed frog can live in many different places. It can be found in wet areas like swamps near the coast. It also lives in rainforests high up in the mountains. This shows that the frog can adapt to different environments.

Discovery and Naming

Scientists knew about this frog as early as the 1960s. However, it was not officially named and described until 1982. This means that scientists wrote the first formal paper about it in that year.

Reproduction and Life Cycle

The revealed frog lays its eggs in still water. This means it chooses calm ponds or slow-moving streams. This helps the eggs stay safe as they develop.

Conservation Status

The revealed frog is not currently an endangered species. This is good news! However, its home is still at risk. People sometimes damage the frog's habitat. This happens when trees are cut down or when cows are brought in to eat the grass. Protecting these areas helps the revealed frog and other animals.
