Reynaert (born Joseph Reynaerts; 24 July 1955 – 5 November 2020) was a singer and songwriter from Belgium. He was most famous for taking part in the Eurovision Song Contest in 1988.
Early Music Career
Reynaert was born in a town called Seraing in Belgium. When he was 18, he started playing music in public places, which is called busking.
In 1978, he won a music contest in the town of Spa. He won with his song "Cerf-volant," which means "Kite." This song was later released as a single.
In 1982, he released another single called "Pas assez," meaning "Not Enough." His first full music album came out in 1984.
Eurovision Song Contest
In 1988, Reynaert's song "Laissez briller le soleil" was chosen to represent Belgium. The song's title means "Let the Sun Shine."
The 33rd Eurovision Song Contest happened on 30 April in Dublin. Reynaert's song was a thoughtful one. It ended up in 18th place out of 21 songs. He only received points from the French judges.
"Laissez briller le soleil" was released as a single after the contest. However, it did not become very popular.
Later Life and Work
Reynaert worked as a director at the Centre Culturel de Soumagne in Belgium. He continued in this role until he passed away.
Sadly, Reynaert died on 5 November 2020. He passed away from COVID-19 during the pandemic in Belgium.
