Reza Dormishian (Persian: رضا درمیشیان) is an Iranian film director, screenwriter, and film producer. He has worked with famous directors like Dariush Mehrjui and Alireza Davood Nejad.

About Reza Dormishian's Career

Reza Dormishian started his career in 1997. He first wrote about movies for different newspapers. Later, he became an editor for books and magazines about cinema. He also worked as an assistant to well-known Iranian filmmakers.

Making Films and Documentaries

In 2002, Reza Dormishian began making his own short films and documentaries. These are shorter movies that tell a story or show real-life events.

Hatred (2012)

His first big movie was called Hatred. He made this film on his own in Istanbul, Turkey. The movie is about an Iranian couple who are refugees in Istanbul. It shows their strong feelings of love and hate.

Critics and writers liked Hatred a lot. Iranian critics even gave it three awards for best directing, cinematography (how the movie is filmed), and editing. Even though some parts of Hatred had to be changed for it to be shown in Iran, it was still shown and praised at many film festivals around the world. These included the Montreal World Film Festival in Canada and the Warsaw Film Festival in Poland.

I'm Not Angry! (2014)

His second movie, I’m not angry!, caused a lot of discussion in Iranian cinema in 2014. This movie is a drama that looks at social issues. It was the only Iranian film shown at the Berlin International Film Festival that year.

When I’m not angry! was shown at the Fajr Film Festival in Iran, about 15 minutes of it had been removed. Many people in the audience really liked the film. However, some groups strongly disagreed with it. Because of these disagreements, the movie was stopped from being shown. To keep things calm, the festival organizers asked Reza Dormishian not to accept his awards for the film. The next day, the people who judged the films said that I’m not angry! had indeed won awards, and that Dormishian had agreed to step aside under pressure. Since then, I’m not angry! has not been shown in Iran.
