Growing Up and Early Life

Reza's Journey in Acting

Reza Rahadian started his career in 2004. He won an award called "Top Guest" for models from an Indonesian magazine, even though he wasn't a professional model. He saw modeling as a way to help him become an actor.

After getting noticed from modeling, Reza got roles in several sinetron (which are like Indonesian soap operas). Some of these were Culunnya Pacarku and Idola.

First Steps in Film

In 2007, Reza made his first movie, a horror-comedy called Film Horor. The next year, he acted in another scary movie, Ghost Island 2.

Becoming a Serious Actor

Reza Rahadian's big break came in 2009. He starred in a movie called Woman with a Turban. After this, he decided he didn't want to act in horror films anymore. He had tried out for a small part in the movie, but the director, Hanung Bramantyo, gave him a much bigger role. He played Samsuddin, the main character's husband. That same year, he acted in four more movies, including three comedies.

The next year, 2010, Reza was in four films. Two important ones were 3 Hati Dua Dunia, Satu Cinta and How Funny (This Country Is). The first movie was about love between people of different faiths. It won a top award at the 2010 Indonesian Film Festival. The second movie was chosen to represent Indonesia at the 83rd Academy Awards.

In 2011, Reza acted in four more movies. One role was Tudo, a dolphin expert, in The Mirror Never Lies. To prepare, he studied dolphins at Ancol in North Jakarta. Besides acting, he also directed a short film called Sebelah (A Side).

Challenging Roles

Reza Rahadian took on six films in 2012. For the movie BrokenHearts, he played a character with anorexia. He lost about 10 kilograms (22 pounds) to get ready for this role. Later, he acted in Perahu Kertas and its sequel. These movies were based on a book by Dewi Lestari. Reza played Remi, a businessman who becomes a love interest. Critics said he did a great job showing his character's struggles.

At the end of 2012, Reza Rahadian played former president B.J. Habibie in the movie Habibie & Ainun. This film told the love story between Habibie and his wife, Ainun (played by Bunga Citra Lestari). Many people praised Reza for perfectly capturing the former president's look and actions. He played Habibie again in the prequel Rudy Habibie in 2016.

In 2017, Reza Rahadian worked again with Adinia Wirasti in the movie Critical Eleven, where they played a couple.
