Rhiannon Afua "Rhian" Benson (born January 10, 1977) is a talented singer and songwriter. She is known for her soulful voice and jazz music. Rhian was born in Accra, Ghana, and has both Ghanaian and British heritage.

Rhian Benson grew up in different countries. She was born in Accra, Ghana. Her mother was a singer from Wales, and her father was a guitarist from the Ashanti group. Rhian has a younger sister and a brother.

Her family moved around a lot. She lived in Ghana and India. Later, she settled in the United Kingdom, her mother's home country. Rhian started playing piano and guitar when she was young. She also enjoyed writing songs and poetry.

She worked with Jonas Rendbo and Daniel Fridell from Denmark on this album. Hands Clean showed a new side of her music. It blended soulful singing with electronic sounds. The songs on the album told stories about love, loss, and life. The first song released from this album was "Better Without You" in February 2011.
