Rhun ab Owain Gwynedd was a young prince from Wales. He was the oldest son of Owain Gwynedd, who was a powerful king of Gwynedd from 1137 to 1170. Rhun's mother was an Irish woman named Pyfog. She was one of the women King Owain had children with, even though they were not married.
Rhun was his father's favorite child. King Owain even chose him to be the next ruler of Gwynedd. However, Rhun died very young in 1146. His death made his father very sad. King Owain only felt better when he heard his army had captured Mold Castle from the English.
