Rhun ab Owain Gwynedd was a young prince from Wales. He was the oldest son of Owain Gwynedd, who was a powerful king of Gwynedd from 1137 to 1170. Rhun's mother was an Irish woman named Pyfog. She was one of the women King Owain had children with, even though they were not married.

Rhun was his father's favorite child. King Owain even chose him to be the next ruler of Gwynedd. However, Rhun died very young in 1146. His death made his father very sad. King Owain only felt better when he heard his army had captured Mold Castle from the English.

What Did Prince Rhun Look Like?

Historical writings describe Rhun ab Owain Gwynedd as a very handsome young man. He was known for being kind and friendly to everyone.

The old Welsh book, Brut y Tywysogion, tells us more about his looks:

He was tall.
He had fair skin.
His hair was curly and yellow.
He had a long face with somewhat blue eyes.
He had a strong, thick neck and a broad chest.
His body was long, with large thighs and long legs.
His feet were long, and his toes were straight.
