Sir Richard Buller (born 1578, died 1642) was an English politician. He was a member of the House of Commons, which is like a big meeting place where laws are made. He served there at different times between 1621 and 1642. Sir Richard was also a military leader for the Parliamentarians during the English Civil War.
Richard Buller was born in a place called Shillingham in Cornwall. His father was Francis Buller, and his mother was Thomasina Williams. Her father, Thomas Williams, was a very important person who served as the Speaker of the House of Commons a long time ago. Richard Buller was given the special title of "Sir" in 1608.
Sir Richard Buller's Political Career
Sir Richard Buller was chosen to be a Member of Parliament (MP) for St Germans in 1621. An MP is someone elected to represent people in the House of Commons.
Later, he became an MP for Saltash. He held this job from 1625 to 1629. During this time, King Charles I decided he wanted to rule the country without the help of Parliament.
In 1637, Sir Richard was given another important job: High Sheriff of Cornwall. This role involved keeping law and order in Cornwall.
When Parliament met again in April 1640, in what was called the Short Parliament, Buller was elected as an MP for Cornwall. Then, in November 1640, he was elected to represent Fowey in the Long Parliament.
Role in the English Civil War
In 1642, the English Civil War began. Sir Richard Buller was involved in military actions in Cornwall. He was a leader for the Parliamentarian side. During one battle, his forces had to pull back from a town called Launceston.
Sir Richard Buller passed away in November 1642. He was 64 years old.

Sir Richard Buller married a woman named Alice Hayward. Her father was Sir Rowland Hayward, who had been the Lord Mayor of London. Sir Richard and Alice had a large family with six sons and six daughters. Three of their sons, Francis, George, and Anthony, also became Members of Parliament, just like their father.
