Richard Philippe Dutruel (born on December 24, 1972) is a French former professional footballer. He played as a goalkeeper during his career.

Playing for Clubs

Richard Dutruel was born in Thonon-les-Bains, France. He played for several football clubs during his career.

Early Career and Loan

He started his professional journey with Paris Saint-Germain FC. Later, he was loaned to Stade Malherbe Caen. A loan means he played for Caen for a short time before returning to his main club.

Success in Spain

Dutruel had a very successful time playing for RC Celta de Vigo in Spain. While with Celta, he also played in the UEFA Cup. This is an important European football competition.

After Celta, he moved to FC Barcelona, one of the biggest clubs in the world. He played there for two seasons. In his first year, he was a backup goalkeeper, meaning he didn't play in every game.

Later Career

He then played for Deportivo Alavés in Spain. His last club was RC Strasbourg in France. Richard Dutruel stopped playing professional football in June 2005. He was almost 33 years old when he retired.

Playing for France

Richard Dutruel also had the chance to play for his country, France. He earned one "cap" for France. A cap means he played in one official match for the national team.

This happened on October 4, 2000. He came into the game as a substitute during a friendly match against Cameroon. A friendly match is a game played for practice, not as part of a competition. The game ended in a 1–1 tie.
