About Sir Richard Gardiner
Richard Gardiner was born to John and Isabella Gardiner. His family lived in a place called Exning, near Newmarket in Suffolk.
He married a woman named Etheldreda, who was also called Audrey. Her father was William Cotton from Cambridgeshire. After Richard passed away, Audrey married Sir Gilbert Talbot. Richard and Audrey had one daughter named Mary. She later married Sir Giles Alington in 1504.
Sir Richard's Legacy
Sir Richard Gardiner was known for his kindness and generosity. In his will, he made sure to help people in need. He left money and property to his wife, Audrey, and then to his daughter, Mary.
If there were no direct heirs, he planned for the money to help poor people. He wanted to support five poor men and five poor women every day. This was a way to honor his faith and help those less fortunate in London.
His will was officially approved on April 19, 1490. It showed his commitment to his family and to helping the community.
