Richard Medlin, born on March 4, 1987, is a former American football player. He was a talented running back who played in college for the Fayetteville State Broncos. Later, he was part of teams like the New England Patriots, Miami Dolphins, and Atlanta Falcons in the National Football League (NFL).

Early Life and College Football Journey

Richard Medlin was born in Raleigh, North Carolina. He went to Garner High School. In 2007, he joined the NCAA Division II Fayetteville State Broncos college team. He started as a "walk-on," meaning he joined the team without a scholarship.

Becoming a College Star

Richard spent his first year as a "redshirt," which means he practiced but didn't play in games. This allowed him to train and get ready. By his second year, he became a starter for the Broncos. He led his team in rushing yards for three seasons, from 2008 to 2010. He was also their best player for returning kicks.

In 2008, Richard was named the conference's special teams player of the year. This was because he scored three touchdowns from kickoffs in just two games! He averaged an amazing 41.7 yards per return that year.

College Achievements and Records

As a junior, Richard helped Fayetteville State win the conference championship. He ran for 667 yards and scored 10 touchdowns, which was the most on his team. In 2010, his senior year, he ran for 772 yards. He averaged 5.4 yards every time he carried the ball. He also caught 26 passes, which was the second-highest on the team.

After his senior season, Richard was named Fayetteville State's male athlete of the year. He finished his college career with a total of 2,721 rushing yards and 28 touchdowns. These were impressive numbers for his college career.

Professional Football Career

After college, Richard Medlin was not chosen in the 2011 NFL draft. However, the New England Patriots signed him as an undrafted free agent on August 3, 2011. This gave him a chance to play in the NFL.

Playing for the Patriots

Richard played a lot in the Patriots' first preseason game. He scored a touchdown on his very first carry! In that game, he ran the ball 14 times for 54 yards and scored two touchdowns. By the end of the preseason, he had 66 rushing yards and 39 receiving yards. However, he was released by the team on September 3, 2011, before the regular season started.

Time with the Dolphins and Falcons

On September 21, 2011, Richard was signed to the practice squad of the Miami Dolphins. A practice squad is where players train with the team but aren't on the main roster. He was later moved to the active roster for the Dolphins' last game of the season. He made his official NFL debut in a 19–17 win against the New York Jets. He did not record any statistics in that game.

The Dolphins released Richard on May 7, 2012. Later that year, on August 5, 2012, he signed with the Atlanta Falcons. He was released by the Falcons on August 25, 2012. Richard Medlin's professional career included playing for these three NFL teams.
