Richard Winstone (born 1699, died 1787) was a British stage actor who lived a long time ago, in the 1700s. He was known for performing in many plays during his career.

Early Acting Days in London

Richard Winstone started his acting journey in 1732. He joined a theatre group led by Henry Giffard at the Goodman's Fields Theatre in London. After that, he performed at several other famous London theatres. These included places like Lincoln's Inn Fields and the Haymarket Theatre. He even performed at the lively Bartholomew Fair.

From 1734 to 1753, Richard Winstone became a regular actor at the Theatre Royal, Drury Lane. This was a very important theatre in London. He worked alongside other famous actors, including David Garrick, who was a big star of his time. Even while at Drury Lane, Winstone sometimes acted in other plays at different theatres.

Moving to Bristol and Later Career

Starting in 1743, Richard Winstone began spending his summers acting in Bristol. He performed at the Jacobs Well Theatre there. In May 1753, he gave his last performance in London. After that, he decided to make Bristol his home.

In Bristol, he became a very active member of the local theatre group. This group eventually found a new, permanent home at the Theatre Royal, Bristol. They also performed in the nearby city of Bath. Richard Winstone continued acting until he retired in 1784. He passed away in Bristol three years later, in 1787.
