In 1335, he was chosen as a Member of Parliament (MP) for the City of London. This meant he represented London in the country's main government. He was one of two aldermen who served in Parliament at that time.

Richard le Lacer was married to a woman named Juliana. She was the daughter of Steven de Asshewy and Margaret de Apuldrefield.

Their daughter, Alice le Lacer, got married two times. Her first husband was Sir William le Bruyn. He was from South Ockendon, Essex. After Sir William passed away, Alice married Sir Robert de Marny in 1362 or 1363. He was from Layer Marney, also in Essex. However, they later divorced in 1365.
