Richland is a small town located in Spencer County, Indiana, in the United States. It is part of Luce Township. In 2008, the people living in Richland voted to officially become a town. Before that, it was an "unincorporated community," which means it didn't have its own local government.

As of the 2020 census, about 403 people live in Richland. The town is working on providing different services for its residents. For example, the Spencer County Sheriff's Department helps keep the town safe by providing police protection.

History of Richland

Richland was first planned out in 1861. The town got its name because the soil in the area was very "rich" or fertile. This meant it was great for farming.

The first post office opened in 1862. It was originally called "Lake." Later, in 1921, its name was changed to Richland. This post office has been serving the community ever since.
