Richard Wilson (born February 7, 1956) is a former American professional basketball player. He played as a shooting guard. Rick Wilson was part of the Atlanta Hawks team in the National Basketball Association (NBA) from 1978 to 1980.

Rick Wilson's College Basketball Journey
Rick Wilson went to Atherton High School in Louisville, Kentucky. After high school, he played college basketball for the University of Louisville. He was a Louisville Cardinal from 1974 to 1978.
Freshman Year and Beyond
As a freshman, Wilson was a reserve player. He was part of the Cardinals team that reached the Final Four in 1975. After his first year, Wilson became a starter for the rest of his college career.
Sophomore and Junior Seasons
In his sophomore year, he averaged 14.8 points per game. He also had 6.3 rebounds and 4.5 assists per game. Wilson helped lead the Cardinals to the 1976 National Invitation Tournament. As a junior, he played alongside Phil Bond. They led the Cardinals to the 1977 NCAA Men's Division I Basketball Tournament.

During his senior year (1977–78 season), Wilson was a key player. He averaged 17.8 points, 5.2 rebounds, and 4.5 assists. He led the Cardinals to win the Metro Conference championship. Wilson was also named the Most Valuable Player (MVP) of the 1978 Metro Conference men's basketball tournament. That season, he earned the title of Metro Conference Men's Basketball Player of the Year.

After his successful college career, Rick Wilson entered the 1978 NBA draft. The Atlanta Hawks picked him in the second round. He was the 25th player chosen overall.
Time with the Atlanta Hawks
As a rookie in the 1978–79 NBA season, Wilson played in 81 games. He was a reserve player, meaning he came off the bench. He averaged 3.0 points, 1.2 rebounds, and 1.2 assists per game. In the next season (1979–80), Wilson played in 5 games before leaving the Hawks.
