Ridge is a small, unincorporated community located in Mills County, Texas, United States. An "unincorporated community" means it's a group of homes and businesses that isn't officially a town or city with its own local government. It used to be known as Cold Springs. In the year 2000, about 25 people lived in Ridge.

History of Ridge

The area where Ridge is today was first settled in the early 1890s. A man named W.D. Aldridge gave the community its name. He opened a post office in his store and used the last five letters of his own last name, "Aldridge," to name the place "Ridge."

The post office in Ridge stayed open until 1915. After it closed, people in Ridge received their mail from the nearby town of Mullin. By 1990, Ridge had a church and a cemetery.

Where is Ridge Located?

Ridge is found in the far western part of Mills County, Texas. It sits right where two important roads meet: Farm to Market Road 573 and Farm to Market Road 574. These are special roads in Texas that connect farming areas to markets. Ridge is about 15 miles (24 kilometers) west of a larger town called Goldthwaite.

Education in Ridge

In 1936, Ridge had its own school district, which meant it had its own schools for local children. Today, students living in Ridge attend schools that are part of the Priddy Independent School District.
