The Story of Rising Sun

How Rising Sun Got Its Name

The community of Rising Sun has a cool story behind its name! A long time ago, when a man named Mr. Wilder first settled there, it had been raining for two whole weeks. The sun hadn't been seen at all during that time. But the very next day, the sun finally appeared! Because of this happy event, the area was named "Rising Sun."

Mail Delivery in Rising Sun

Rising Sun used to have its own post office. It opened on March 14, 1856. Mr. Truman H. Wilder, the same person involved in the naming story, was the first postmaster. The post office was located in a specific part of the area. However, it closed down on April 20, 1904. After that, people living in Rising Sun received their mail from the post office in a nearby town called Ferryville.
