Rivas is a city and a special area called a municipality in southwestern Nicaragua. It is located on a narrow strip of land known as an Isthmus. This city is the main center for the Rivas Department, which is like a state or province.

Rivas has a tropical savanna climate. This means it has a long wet season and a short dry season. The dry season lasts from January to April. The wet season runs from May to October.
Temperatures and Rainfall
