Where the River Shuttle Starts and Flows
The River Shuttle begins its journey from springs (natural water sources) between Avery Hill and Eltham in the Royal Borough of Greenwich. It flows east through the green spaces of Avery Hill Park.
Then, the river crosses into the London Borough of Bexley. It continues its path through several parks, including Parish Wood Park, Hollyoak Wood Park, Willersley Park, and Marlborough Park. It also flows through Sidcup Golf Course. Here, it feeds a lake found in the grounds of Lamorbey Mansion, which is now part of the Rose Bruford College.
The River Shuttle keeps flowing east through Bexley Woods. It then follows the south side of the main A2 road, which connects London to Dover. The river also passes through the grounds of Beths Grammar School. Finally, it joins the River Cray just south of Hall Place.
The Shuttle Riverway Walk
You can follow the entire length of the River Shuttle on a special walking path called the Shuttle Riverway. This path is about five miles (or 8 km) long. It was created thanks to a strong effort by a person named Donald Stringer. The walk tries to stay close to the river as much as possible. It also uses woods, parks, small pathways, and some connecting roads.
Wyncham Stream: A Helper Stream
The River Shuttle has its own small helper stream called the Wyncham Stream. This stream flows into the Shuttle in Hollyoak Wood Park. The Wyncham Stream starts near the Sports Grounds on the A20. It then flows past Dulverton Primary School, goes under the railway line that connects Dartford to London via Sidcup, passes the Old Farm Avenue allotments, and goes under Halfway Street before joining the Shuttle.
