The River aux Sables is a cool river in Ontario, Canada. It's also called the Aux Sables River or Rivière aux Sables. This river flows through two areas: Algoma and Sudbury.

The River aux Sables starts at a lake called Lac aux Sables in Algoma District. It then travels south and eventually joins the Spanish River. This meeting point is close to a town called Massey.

River aux Sables: Past and Present Uses

Long ago, the River aux Sables was very important for moving logs. Lumberjacks would cut down trees and float the logs down the river. These logs were then used at sawmills to make wood for building.

Chutes Provincial Park

The river flows right through Chutes Provincial Park. This park got its name from special "chutes" that were built on the river. A chute is like a slide for logs. They helped logs get past fast-moving parts of the river called rapids.

Today, the river is mostly used for fun activities. People love to go canoeing and kayaking on its waters. It's a great place for outdoor adventures.

Following the River's Path

You can follow parts of the River aux Sables by car. Ontario Highway 810 runs alongside the river for a long stretch. It starts near Richie Falls, south of Lac aux Sables, and goes down to Bull Lake.

Further south, Ontario Highway 553 continues towards Massey. This highway also follows the river's path, sometimes moving away and then coming back closer to the river as it gets near Massey.

Tributaries

A tributary is a smaller stream or river that flows into a larger one. The River aux Sables has at least one known tributary:
